⚠ Achtung Siehe Power vs. Truth (engl.) Januar 2013

Quotes by D. Hawkins

⚠ Caveat See Power vs. Truth, January 2013

  • Dualism is created by our positions. Source unknown

  • There is no this and that, there is no "out-there" or "in-here" (except that we perceive it). There is just is. (Nondualism; Neti, neti) Source unknown

  • There is, ultimately, neither duality nor nonduality, there is only awareness. Only awareness itself can state that it's beyond all concepts such as "is" or "is not". That must be so because "is" can be conceived only by consciousness itself. Power vs. Force. The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior, S. 233, Hay House, February 2002

Final apocalypse of the self

  • The glory of ecstasy has to be relinquished, as one enters upon the arduous task of transcending duality until one is beyond all oppositions and their conflicting pulls. But while it is one thing to happily give up the iron chains of the ego, it is quite another to abandon the golden chains of ecstatic joy. It feels as though one is giving up God and a new level of fear arises […] terror of absolute aloneness. The purpose of the agonies […] then become apparent – they are so intolerable that their exquisite pain spurs one on to the extreme effort required to surmount them. When vacillation between heaven and hell becomes unendurable, the desire for existence itself has to be surrendered.
This culmination of the inner work […] is the ultimate watershed […]. There is no returning from this step, and this specter of irreversibility makes this last barrier appear the most formidable choice of all.
But, in fact, in this final apocalypse of the self, the dissolution of the sole remaining duality […] identity itself dissolves in Universal Divinity. Power vs. Force. The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior, S. 303-304, Hay House, February 2002

  • The constant awareness of one's existence as "I" is the ever present expression of the innate divinity of the Self. […] The truth of this identity is obscured by the duality created by perception and disappears when all positionalities are relinquished. I. Reality and Subjectivity, S. 129, 2003

  • Inasmuch as the entire universe and everything in it is a karmic unity, the Allness of Reality is the realization of enlightenment. If all is a karmic unity that originates from the same source, then to see any separation is an artifact of perception. In Reality, the one and the many are the same. I. Reality and Subjectivity, S. 251, 2003

Counterforces, opposites of ego positions

  • While the fall of man is allegorical (the story calibrates at 60), the downside was the naive belief and consequent emphasis on guilt and sin. With research, the 'fall of man' is the emergence of dualistic thinking (i.e. the tree of good and evil) which was the trap man fell into out of a seduction of curiosity. (This explanation calibrates at 995.) Truth vs. Falsehood. How to Tell the Difference, S. 335, 2005

  • Question: Spiritual inquiry starts with acquired information derived from study etc. This then results in the obstacle of the mind's conclusion that "I know". How can valid information be held so as not to create the obstacle of presumption?
Answer: To the seeker of the Truth of the inner pathway of non-duality, all learning is held as tentative until the innate truth reveals itself and is validated experientially. This process is potentiated by recontextualization. Classically, the recommended positon from which to hold information is clarified by the phrase "So I have heard", which implies the holding back of transferring of the information into a belief system. That information has become an integrated 'knowingness' is indicated by a transformational change of perception consequent to full understanding. This is often the result of reflection and contemplation. Discovery of the Presence of God. Devotional Nonduality, S. 67-68, 2007

  • This subject is the core of all spiritual endeavors. The undoing of the identification with the ego/self is the primary focus of spiritual evolution and is the enigma that has baffled even the most erudite minds of history. The crux of the problem is misidentification with qualities of the ego/mind processing function already identified with the linearity of the localization of the phenomena. This is a natural consequence associated with the physical reality of the experience of life as a body. The primary problem is misidentification of the actual source of subjectivity and the presumption that it is local rather than nonlocal. Discovery of the Presence of God. Devotional Nonduality, chapter 13 Transcending the identification with the ego/self, S. 211, 2007

  • DUALITY: The world of form characterized by seeming separation of objects, reflected in conceptual dichotomies such as "this/that," "here/there," "then/now."
NONDUALITY: When the limitation of a fixed locus of perception is transcended, there is no longer an illusion of separation nor of space and time as we know them. On the level of nonduality there is observing but no observer, as subject and object are one. You-and-I becomes the One Self experiencing all as Divine. In nonduality, consciousness experiences itself as both manifest and unmanifest, yet there is no experiencer. In this reality, the only thing that has a beginning and an ending is the act of perception itself. Along the Path to Enlightenment. 365 Reflections from David R. Hawkins, edited by Scott Jeffrey, Glossary [composite of edited excerpts from Dr. Hawkins's work], January 2011

  • The ego is the form that consciousness takes when you split it into duality by a positionality which creates the illusion of the opposites. 3rd International Consciousness and Science Conference, ~2002

  • In a dualistic world, one wins and the other one loses. That's from a [...] linear perception. Karmically, a loss may be the biggest gain of your life. Because the world is what it is, it's the optimum theater for karmic benefit. It's the optimum place for the undoing of negative karma and the gaining of positive karma. Therefore, wanting to change the world doesn't make much sense. Ramana Maharshi says the world you see doesn't even exist. Save yourself the trouble and surrender it to God. So if the purpose of the world is to provide an optimum opportunity for the undoing of negative karma, all your dogooderism [LoC 190] is going to sentence those people to the continuation of bad karma. "Divide and rule" cilizations

  • The civilisation of ancient Greece was nurtured within city walls. In fact, all the modern civilisations have their cradles of brick and mortar. These walls leave their mark deep in the minds of men. They set up a principle of "divide and rule" in our mental outlook, which begets in us a habit of securing all our conquests by fortifying them and separating them from one another. We divide nation and nation, knowledge and knowledge, man and nature. It breeds in us a strong suspicion of whatever is beyond the barriers we have built, and everything has to fight hard for its entrance into our recognition. 'Consensual' nonrelationship between science and religion

  • In the late seventeenth century, after the Galilei affair proved hurtful to both, science and religion worked out an unwritten social contract of nonrelationship. The world was quite arbitrarily divided into the "natural" and the "supernatural." Religion agreed that the "natural world" was the sole province of the scientists. And science agreed, in turn, to keep its nose out of the spiritual – or for that matter, anything to do with values. Indeed, science defined itself as "value free." From Ignorance and Error to Heart opening – Quote from Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

  1. FALSEHOODIn the intoxication of youthful successes I had felt myself to be infallible, and I was therefore cruel.
  2. FALSEHOOD – In the surfeit of power I was a murderer and an oppressor.
  3. FALSEHOOD – In my most evil moments I was convinced that I was doing good, and I was well supplied with systematic arguments.
    ________________________________________________________
  4. INSIGHT GOODNESS – It was only when I lay there on rotting prison straw that I sensed within myself the first stirrings of good.
Gradually it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either, but right through every human heart, and through all human hearts.

  2. AS-WELL-AS – When you pray, you will discover that there is yet someone else in your house.
  3. NEITHER-NOR – When you pray on, you will notice that it isn't your house at all.
When you just continue to pray, you will notice that there is no house at all that one has to protect
    ..................................................................................................
  4. ALL-IN-ALL – because there is only ONE house. And that house is everyone's home.
