Ein Minister hatte seinem König lange Jahre treu gedient. Eines Tages aber wurde er wegen Hochverrats angezeigt und überführt, ihn erwartete die Todesstrafe. Der König gewährte ihm wegen seiner langjährigen Dienste die Gnade, seine Todesart zu wählen. Er führte ihn in einen Saal, wo die Hinrichtungswaffen lagen. Dort zeigte er ihm auch eine schwarze Tür. Der Minister wählte eine der Todesarten. Die Königin fragte danach, was denn hinter der schwarzen Tür sei? Der König antwortete: Das große weite Land der Freiheit. Da die Menschen Angst haben vor dem Unbekannten, öffnen nur ganz wenige die schwarze Tür.
