⚠ Achtung Siehe Power vs. Truth (engl.) Januar 2013

D. Hawkins, FU Healing and Recovery, S. 17, 2009

Quotes by D. Hawkins

(↓)

Note:

No rung of the Map of Consciousness is better than the others. Jokingly Hawkins said that the rungs of the ladder should have been denoted as the amount of $ one may get in trying to hit the jackpot of $ 1000.

Personal avowals

  • I should have chosen 'A to Z' instead of '1 to 1000' for the Scale of Consciousness (Map) as we can attest to the spiritual ego wanting to be better than others.
Sedona Seminar Reason vs. Truth, DVD 1 of 3, right at start, 19. August 2006

⚠ Caveat See Power vs. Truth, January 2013

  • Inasmuch as everything in the universe is connected with everything else2 it isn't surprising that one of the primary ob-
jectives of this study – a map of the energy fields of consciousness – would correlate with and be corroborated by
all other avenues of investigation, uniting the diversity of human experience and its expressions in an all-encompas-
sing paradigm.[*] Such an insight can bypass the artificial dichotomy between subject and object, transcending the limited viewpoint that creates the illusions of duality.
Power vs. Force. The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior, chapter 1, S. 44 and 50, footnote 16, Hay House, February 2002
This is discussed in Ken Wilber's book The Holographic Paradigm and Other Paradoxes, S. 159, Shambhala, Boulder, Colorado, 12. September 1982
Power vs. Force. The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior, "Notes", S. 302, Hay House, February 2002

  • In the Reality of nonduality, there is neither privilege nor gain nor loss nor rank. Just like a cork in the sea, each spirit rises or falls in the sea of consciousness to its own level by virtue of its own choices, and not by any external force or favor. Some are attracted by the light and some seek the darkness, but it all occurs of its own nature by virtue of divine freedom and equality. The Eye of the I From Which Nothing is Hidden, S. 262, 2001

Bild
Lotus flower, Nelumbo nucifera, bean of India 3. July 2008
  • The level of consciousness is determined by the choices made by the spiritual will and therefore is the consequence as well as the determinant of karma. Freedom to evolve requires a world which affords the greatest opportunity to ascend or descend the spiritual ladder. Viewed from that perspective, this is an ideal world and its society is constituted by a wide range of experiential options. I. Reality and Subjectivity, S. 80, 2003

  • It [the Ego] can be transcended. More important is not the nature of the ego but the problem of identification with it as the 'me', the 'I', or 'myself'. The ego was inherited as an 'it', and is actually an impersonal 'it'. The problem arises because one personalizes and identifies with it. That 'it' of the ego structure is not unique or indi-
vidual, and it is relatively similar, with karmic variations, in every-
one. What really varies from individual to individual is the degree to which one is enslaved by its programs. The degree of dominance is therefore determined by the extent to which one identifies with it. Inherently, it has no power, and the power to decline the ego's programs increases exponenti-
    ally as one progresses spiritually.
That is the real meaning of the Scale of Consciousness.
    I. Reality and Subjectivity, S. 112, 2003

  • As demonstrated by the Map of Consciousness, the calibratable power increases logarithmically; thus, spiritual evo-
lution is progressively facilitated by the higher levels of spiritual advancement as compared to the consciousness
of the scientific observer, which characteristically calibrates in the mid-400s. Transcending Levels of Consciousness.
    The Stairway to Enlightenment
    , Section V, heading "Spiritual Transformation", S. 309 [311], 2006

  • In addition to the ego/mind's presumption that it 'knows' something because it has heard about it (reading a book on golf does not make one an expert golfer), there is the error of mixing levels of Truth or abstraction. The apparent levels of consciousness are not necessarily those of another level, as is indicated by the numerical designations of
the calibrated levels of consciousness. As an example one can cite the well-known saying of Ramana Maharshi that
"there is no point in trying to save the world because the world one sees does not even exist". That is the truth and
experiential reality of consciousness calibration level 720 but it is not the experiential reality of consciousness levels
below it. It is necessary to be true to the reality that is experientially valid and true at one's level of develop-
    ment.
Discovery of the Presence of God. Devotional Nonduality, chapter 5 "Clarifications", S. 98-99, 2007

  • One could also say that, analogously, each level of consciousness is orchestrated by its own predominant energy attractor field [...] which is thereby the operational 'motherboard' for that field. To choose to forgive by giving up the 'juice' of justified resentments and grudges disconnects all the associated thoughts and grievances from them, along with their multiple rationalizations and memories. Thus, each level has its basic props, and when these props are surrendered, the level no longer dominates. By removing motherboards of each level, one witnesses that every-
thing merely is just what it is, and judgmentalism is surrendered to God. Each level has its associated negative
    feelings
, including guilt, shame, fear, etc., so removing its fulcrum allows the whole stack to collapse.
Discovery of the Presence of God. Devotional Nonduality, chapter 6 "The Experiencer", S. 117-118, 2007

(↓)

The passage from body to spirit

  • Each time we look at the Map of Consciousness, it is from a different perspective with a different emphasis. It alters our understanding of the nature of human consciousness as we approach it from a different context with a broader under-
standing. The levels of consciousness have either a positive or a negative direction, with a crucial intersection in the middle at the level of Courage, which is crossed over by telling the truth. In this case, the telling of the truth is that "My happiness does not depend on anything outside of me. I, of myself, am the source of my happiness by my own inner decisions, integrity, intentions, and by the way I see myself and my relationships with the events of life."
    Healing and Recovery, chapter 12 "Depression", S. 367, 2009

(↓)

Problem of identification with ego/mind

  • More important is not the nature of the ego, but the problem of identification with it as the "me," the "I," or "myself." The ego was inherited as an "it," and is actually an impersonal "it." The problem arises because one personalizes and identifies with it. That "it" of the ego structure is not unique or individual, and it is relatively similar (with karmic varia-
tions) in everyone. What really varies from individual to individual is the degree to which one is enslaved by its programs. The degree of dominance is therefore determined by the extent to which one identifies with it. Inherently, it has no power, and the power to decline the ego's programs increases exponentially as one progresses spiritually. That is the real meaning of the Map of Consciousness. What the majority of people think to be truth is, in reality, opinions. Dissolving the Ego, Realizing the Self. Contemplations from the Teachings of David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D., edited by Scott Jeffrey, chapter 1, S. 9-10, quote 3, Hay House, August 2011

  • [Paraphrased] In the higher levels of consciousness it's easier to make major jumps. The lower levels may take a long time to move through. Sedona Seminar The Human Dilemma, 3 DVD set, 18. August 2007

Quotes by various other sources on maps of consciousness

  • The thing itself has no scale. That is something we add to reality. Because we always use a scale and depend on
it so much, we think the scale really exists. But it doesn’t exist. If it did, it would exist with things. Using a scale you can analyze one reality into entities, big and small, but as soon as we conceptualize something it is already a dead experi-
ence. Shunryu Suzuki Roshi [Works LoC 565] (1904-1971) Japanese US American Sōtō Zen master, Edward Brown, editor, collection of teachings Not Always So. Practicing the True Spirit of Zen, HarperOne, reprint edition 27. May 2003

  • Dr. Hawkins' work represents a landmark stage in the history of attempts aimed at the quantification of quality. The first successful endeavour in this regard occurred twenty five centuries ago in Greece when Pythagoras discovered that music can be related to mathematics. This is so because the pitch of a musical note is determined by the length
of the instrument string that produces it. Concordant intervals in the scale are produced by numerical ratios. The dis-
covery that quality can be reduced to quantity introduced mathematics into the human experience
    and be-
came a starting point in the development of science. In the modern age the best known thrust in the measurement of quality concerns the invention of intelligence testing. Since Alfred Binet established in 1908 the criteria for testing
the Intelligence Quotient (IQ) of humans, the controversial device mushroomed into many variations.
Another trial in the modern history of the quantification of quality involves the work of the renowned mathematician George D. Birkhoff. In Aesthetic Measure, a book published in 1933, Birkhoff argued that the ratio of order and complexity provides a key for the measurement of the aesthetic experience. He claimed that artistic value of objects
can be calculated according to his mathematical formula.

  • The mind matches (or is mapped to) consciousness. Each wave of consciousness that arises is instantly recog-
nized by the mind and the mind matches it, which implies that the mind is pure consciousness, contained. The mind
is simply misinformed about its role. Acknowledging it, extending love to it, causes it to dissipate into pure conscious-

There is only Existence.
Existence requires no cause, and to think as much is to create a fallacy of logic. […]
Looking for a primary cause is an artifact of mentation that arises along with the concepts of time and space.

There is significance in the direction of the energy fields.
Those that are in a negative direction do not support life and could be called 'anti-life'.
Those that are in the positive direction of Truth support and nurture life.

Book review by Ken Wilber on:

Dr. David R. Hawkins, Power vs. Force, 1995, 2002

"Terrifically interesting ideas, but caught in subtle reductionism and the myth of the given. All the "hidden determinants" he mentions in the subtitle are monological instead of tetra-logical." That is the politics of prayer. And that is probably why truly spiritual people are always a threat to
politicians of any sort. They want our allegiance and we can no longer give it. Our house is too big.

Rare it is to be born a human being.
Great good karma is it to even be born a human being.
Even rarer still is it to have heard of enlightenment.
